Cairo Tower (Borg el Qahira, in Arabic): vintage tabletop decorative piece, souvenir from Cairo. Miniature made of bronze (probably). Purchased in the early 1960s when we lived in Cairo.
The Cairo Tower was also known as the "Nasser's Pineapple" due to the "mesh-like" exterior appearance of the lotus given to it by architect Naoum Shebib and for about 50 years it was the tallest structure in North Africa. On the wall of the base of the Tower, there is a coat of arms made of wrought bronze 8x4 m depicting the eagle-symbol of the Egyptian Republic. At the top of the tower, there is a restaurant and the floor rotates at regular intervals, offering a breathtaking view of Cairo.
