Authentic historical engravings from the 18th century by the German engraver Johann Caspar Weinrauch (1764–1828), known for his detailed historical compositions and the classicist style of the era.
These are authentic prints, in very good condition, placed in an elegant old frame measuring 28×33 cm.
Left engraving (undated)
The capture of the Romanian rebels Horea and Cloșca during the Transylvanian Uprising (1784-1785). The main demands of the rebels were related to feudal serfdom and the lack of political equality between Romanians and other ethnicities in Transylvania. They were betrayed and handed over to the imperial troops by their own men. The event culminated in their execution on February 28, 1787. The scene is depicted by Weinrauch with particular intensity, rich movement, and narrative accuracy.
Right engraving (1794)
The king of the Ostrogoths Totila retakes Rome in the 6th century AD. He calls and reprimands the Roman senators, calling them traitors to a nation from which they had benefited. The episode is part of the Gothic Wars and was particularly popular as a theme for engravers of the time. Weinrauch's composition is rich, with carefully structured scenery and multiple figures.
The works are in very good condition for their age, on clean paper, with legible inscriptions. They are placed in an old elegant frame, ready to be hung on a wall. On the back, the beige paper that closes the frame has tears near the frame (see photos).
