A luxurious edition, sold out in bookstores. The book was read only once, but with much love. Nevertheless, one page bears some traces for unknown reasons, as it was there when I bought it (see photo). Also, on the inside cover, the price of 8,850 drachmas is still listed!
Michalis Kottakis was a diplomat for almost four decades and gathers in this volume personal experiences, which he narrates with his very particular humor and marries with a multitude of recipes and simple illustrations in retro style. He writes characteristic in the 'Introduction' text:
This book is not a 'cooking and pastry guide.' It does not contain 'cooking lessons.' It is not a recipe book, with 'grandmother's recipes,' or great-grandmother's, or even mother's... It is not the Tselemenides of the Pocket... [...] It is rather a kind of 'memoirs,' after nearly forty years of diplomatic journeys to temples of gastronomy, culinary art, and the alchemy of taste, a collection of memories and personal experiments.

I divided this book into two parts. In the first, I include my gastronomic memories from a whole life and a long diplomatic career. In the second part, there are recipes from my travels to temples of haute cuisine abroad, recipes of friends from foreign embassies, as well as my personal alchemical attempts, tested and successful. I explain them in such a way that even... if you are a student in the kitchen, you will succeed without much effort. And, mainly, with the certainty that your 'homemade' food will not force your family to resort... to the restaurant.
